The Signal came to me while I was washing up.
One second I was just standing at the sink, hands in the water, as I watched another YouTube video about UFO's. And then out of nowhere, I remembered him standing beside me in that exact spot, laughing at something stupid I’d said. It hit me so hard I had to stop what I was doing. That’s the thing about grief, it hits out of nowhere and affects pretty much every part of your day. Laying in bed waiting to hear the floorboards creak became a nightly ritual. And when I did hear the sign he was still here, I slept soundly.
Writing The Signal was cathartic. It felt like tuning into a frequency. One that hurt, but also healed. Every line came from a real place and a real ache. But underneath all of that, there’s hope. The people we’ve lost aren’t as far away as they feel. They still find ways to reach us. We just have to learn how to listen.
That’s what The Signal is really about.
Not just the longing, but the connection.
Not just grief, but the thread that still runs between you and the person you miss.
A thread you can still feel if you’re willing to tune in.
